While the new generation console from nintendo on the horizon is not visible, but the company has already begun to think about how to competently make the transition from Switch to a new device. Big N President Shuntaro Furukawa spoke about this during an investor meeting.
The leader stressed that nintendo it is important to maintain the user base, which has over a hundred million people. The abrupt transition from the old generation of the console to the new one can spoil relations with consumers. So, the hit Wii and DS devices were followed by the noticeably less popular Wii U and 3DS. According to Furukawa, the organization took into account this experience.
nintendo already setting the stage for a smooth transition:
We still have a lot of games planned for release even five years after the release of the Switch. This is due to the smooth launch of the console, so we decided to focus all resources on creating projects for one platform. However, the question of whether we will be able to smoothly transition from Nintendo Switch to the next generation of consoles is of great concern to us. Given our experience with the Wii, Nintendo DS, and other devices, one of the biggest hurdles is making it easy to transition from one device to another.
To reduce the risks associated with this process, the company develops long-term relationships with customers. Services that require a Nintendo Account and projects outside of gaming software will help.
As for the release of the “new Switch”, an analytical agency specialist Ampere Analysis Piers Harding-Rolls believes that the console will appear in about two years. The expert came to this conclusion after the announcement of the latest financial results nintendo.
The Switch, along with its OLED version, is in the middle of its life cycle, according to the company. The console has sold 107.6 million units since its inception, and Harding-Rolls is confident that sales growth will start to slow until nintendo does not announce a new generation device.
It will not be possible to accelerate the pace of sales even for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, the expert believes, as Switch will move to the final stages of its life cycle. However, the analyst does not exclude the possibility that the number of Switches sold over the entire time will be able to outperform the PlayStation 2.
