Recently, the Internet noticed that the names of many characters in Elden Ring begin with the initials of George Martin (George RR Martin), who participated in the creation of lore. Could this be how the author of A Song of Ice and Fire immortalized himself in the game? No, the writer didn’t do it on purpose.

Martin wrote about it on his blog:

There is a strange story floating around the Internet about how I “hid” my initials in Elden Ring, because… uh… some character names start with R, or G, or M. To which I say: “Huh? What? Truth?” This was news to me.

I’ve been writing and publishing short stories since 1971 and I suspect I’ve been giving character names starting with R, G, and M from the very beginning, along with the other twenty-three letters of the alphabet. Coming up with names is tricky, especially since there are so many of them in A Song of Ice and Fire. Also, I like to give family members and close relatives names that have something in common… but seriously, why would I hide my name inside the game? My name is already in the game – as one of the creators. Hey, Elden Ring and so exciting enough, no need to invent anything.

In particular, it was about the key four characters – the first letters of their names in English add up to the initials of the writer: Godfrey, Rennala, Radagon and Marika (GRRM). In addition, the names of other important heroes also suggested Martin’s cunning plan – these are Godwin, Godric, Radan, Rickard, Ranny, Renna, Morgoth, Mog, Malenia, Mikella and Maliket (the same G, R and M).

We will remind, earlier Martin said that he was delighted with the warm welcome Elden Ring.
