The plot of the game
You will play as an unnamed character named Jacket, who receives a message on his phone and a parcel. It contains an animal mask and a description of the task, which includes killing people in the marked building. The plot moves through the receipt of notes by Jacket, and the missions gradually become more difficult.
During a break between fulfilling orders, the hero can relax in the nearest grocery store, where the seller with a beard will comment on what is happening. In addition to the main stages of the passage, the game also has additional elements built into the narrative, such as Jacket’s hallucinations and his affair with a girl found in a club.
Dialogues are an important element of the plot, as some phrases, especially those spoken by Richard, may clarify the structure of the story. Richard asks questions or predicts events. Also, Jacket periodically receives calls from an unknown number, and the hero, together with the player, will have to find out the source of the calls.
Gameplay Feature
The gameplay begins with a prologue about sleep, which is also a tutorial level. The hero must successfully complete several story chapters, where it is necessary to kill a certain number of people. At the beginning of each episode that makes up the chapters, the player will receive audio messages with special tasks. Together with the hero, the user goes to the indicated places, puts on a mask and begins to destroy enemies.
Hotline Miami is loaded with a rich arsenal of weapons. Among the available objects there are piercing and cutting objects, firearms, knives, rifles and much more. To pass the tests, the player must choose the appropriate weapons and use a certain style of combat. The gameplay is significantly complicated by the lack of a health bar – in most game modes, the hero dies with one hit.
The game has multiple endings. The standard ending will meet the hero if he systematically completes tasks, and also plays out the second storyline – the Biker’s line. The hidden ending appears if the user finds special letters during the game, which can be used to compose a password that is entered on the computer in the final game episode.
Graphics Features
The player will watch Jacket’s adventure from above, completely covering the map of the building. The location consists of several rooms, each of which contains a certain number of opponents. The graphics of the game are strongly reminiscent of arcades created for early versions of consoles, and the player will have to navigate through a 2D pixel world.
